What is Search the Scriptures?
Search the Scriptures is a practical method of immersing yourself in the Scriptures. Psalm 1 and many other passages encourage us to meditate – to intensely and deliberately engage our minds and hearts – in the truths God has placed there. Search the Scriptures provides an avenue for doing precisely that, and hopefully, getting some help along the way.
Our method
- Presents a clear direction for your Bible study
- Invites people to dig deeper into the Scriptures through meditation
- Encourages fellowship with others who are seeking the truth in a passage of Scripture
It is our hope that these guides will provide the opportunity for you to intentionally pause and think about these scripture passages and connect you other believers.

Common Questions
What is the idea behind Search the Scriptures?
The principle behind Search the Scriptures is simple: it’s devoting an entire month to meditation on one particular passage of Scripture. We read it every day during the month, using the included Study Guide as a way to stimulate and compel our thinking. Our goal is not to plant a flag in the passage and say we finished it. Our goal is to slow down, return again and again to the text, consider prayerfully the truths we are encountering and use a variety of approaches to come to understand it better. If all you do at first is simply read and dwell on the passage every day, then that is a tremendous start towards a greatly strengthened and closer relationship to God through His Word.
How does Search the Scriptures work?
Meditation is a deliberate process of occupying yourself with the Bible. We assimilate in Search the Scriptures by these three steps – Consume ( read and re-read), Consider (study), and Communicate (share and listen.
CONSUME
Each month we journey through one digestible passage of Scripture every day for the entire month. By digestible, we mean a passage that is brief enough to be read in 10-15 minutes yet is large enough to grasp much of the context.
CONSIDER
Along with the passage we provide a guide to aid you in your reading and thoughts,. There is an introduction to the passage that would whet your appetite a bit without giving away too much of what is in the text. And then there are questions of various types that are all meant to do one thing – force you to slow down and consider (meditate on) what God has placed there.
COMMUNICATE
At the end of the month, and even throughout the month we encouraged you to gather with others who are also working through the passage. This gathering ought to be informal and encourage healthy exchange on what you have learned, while also gaining much hearing what others have learned. The guide’s questions act as a hub around which the discussion can easily revolve.
How much of the Bible do I need to know to use Search the Scriptures?
The simple answer is: ZERO! In fact, the whole idea is to move forward deliberately from wherever you are. We encourage one of three general approaches in using the program effectively.
